Jeannine A. Young

Welcome!

Publishing Reflections: Learning Life's Lessons was a dream come true.  I had long wanted to publish a book.  As a "big sister" I wanted to share my reflections on life with others, especially with young people.  Reflections allowed me to combine both ambitions.

I’ve created this web site to help you learn more about my writing and to connect with you, my readers.

Gold Star Family Tribute

“I never met “Uncle Albert.”  He’s my uncle through marriage.  He died before I was married.  In fact, he died before my husband, Joseph Young, was born.  Yet, whenever I think of Uncle Albert, tears come to my eyes.

Uncle Albert was the son of Fred and Josephine Young of Craftsbury, Vermont.  Joseph’s father Henry A. Young was the eldest son.  The only living sibling of Albert is Viola Reil, who still lives in Craftsbury.  Uncle Albert Young was shot down on a bombing mission over Germany on September 30, 1944 during World War II.

He was a Staff Sergeant in the 457th Bomb Group, which was stationed in England as part of the Eighth Air Force.  It was on Mission Number 129 that he was shot down….”

That is the beginning of the brief tribute I wrote for my husband’s uncle to be included in the Tribute to Gold Star Families Event to be held at the Elks Lodge in Derby Vermont on Saturday, May 23, 2009.  While this is not an author event, I plan to attend out of respect for my husband’s family, to honor our fallen uncle.

Gold Star Families are those who have lost family members during a war.  The event is sponsored by Scott and Penny Wheeler and family and Vermont’s Northland Journal, along with members of the Elks in Derby, Vermont.

What are people saying about The Lonesome Tree?

"I love your story about "The Lonesome Tree"! ... I would like to get a few more copies.  My friend's daughter is having a birthday soon, and I think my two niece's kids would also very much enjoy it.  Therefore, would you be able to send 3 more?" (DM)
